Inspired Unemployed: Jack Steele, Matt Ford spill on prank that went wrong
The Inspired Unemployed lads have opened up about a TV prank that almost ended in blows.
The social media sensations have a new show on Paramount+ (also airing on Channel 10 tonight at 8.30pm) called The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers.
In the program, the four Inspired Unemployed fellas take it in turns to enter a scenario with members of the general public, and they have to say and do whatever their mates tell them to do via an earpiece.
But during an interview with news.com.au, Jack Steele and Matt Ford explained that the first stunt they filmed for the show almost ended in disaster.
“Jack was pretending to be a golf instructor … for a guy who had never played golf before,” Matt said. “And we were feeding him (Jack) lines.”
Every time the guy had a swing at the golf ball, Jack was challenged to mock the man with a series of lines including: “I can’t watch this”, and, “mate, I’m going to vomit”, and “yuck”.
The man did not appreciate the feedback.
“He got so angry that he ended up storming out,” Matt told news.com.au.
“He had the reddest face,” Jack added. “He just walked straight past me and I ran out and said, ‘hey mate, it’s just a show, it’s all a joke.”
The man failed to see the funny side, but after five minutes he calmed down and eventually ended up having a chuckle with the lads.
“He really warmed up and started laughing and then he was stoked about it,” Matt said.
The close call taught the boys a valuable lesson.
“This was the first stunt, so we were trialling out how the show would work,” Jack said. “And then we realised, don’t be mean, don’t push them that far, the joke should be on us.”
Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers is the latest feather in the cap for the larrikins from the NSW south coast who boast an incredible 3.8 million followers on social media, and who have their own podcast and brand of beer.
“We’ve always wanted to do a TV show, it’s been our dream since the start,” Matt told news.com.au.

“Within a month we got three offers (from different networks) … and this one just felt right,” Jack said.
“We got the call, had some meetings with them (Paramount) and thought, ‘this is perfect, this will be so much fun to do,’ locked it in and now we’ve done our first TV show which is cool,” Matt said.
The Inspired Unemployed (Impractical) Jokers premieres Wednesday, August 9 at 8.30pm on Channel 10, or you can stream the entire series now on Paramount+
