The shooting occured during the second week that the school district returned to school in person.

PARENTS BEGIN REUNITING WITH STUDENTS

The New Hanover County Sheriffs Office working in partnership with the New Hanover County schools has begun the reunification of parents and kids from New Hanover high school at the MLK center.

EVACUATION

Students were initially locked down in their classrooms before being evacuated just after 12.10pm.

Footage from an on-scene reporter showed a group of masked-up students leaving the building.

STILL WAITING ON HEADCOUNT

Parents are still waiting to pick up their children after a headcount and search of the school is complete.

POSSIBLE VIDEO FROM THE SCENE

Footage that is believed to be from the scene shows students fighting in one of the corridors before gunshots could be heard ringing out.

One of the minors dragged another by his white T-shirt across the catwalk, to which students started yelling "no, no, stop, stop it."

Three gunshots can then be heard before the video ends. The footage has not been commented on by police.
